Vintage tone
Diving deep into the rich history of musical delay outboard units and pedals, EchoBoy is a culmination of decades worth of research and advancement, in a single plug-in. Including over 30 different styles of delay, each modelled from a ubiquitous piece of musical history, you'll find a tone for your projects no matter what style or genre you're creating. Often expensive and difficult to source, vintage hardware equipment contains the secret 'mojo' but lacks the functionality and reliability of digital software, therefore it was imperative that EchoBoy blends functionality with authentic analog tones.
Going as far as to include another history piece of equipment, EchoBoy features one of the most revered outboard chorus units within the arsenal of sound-shaping tools to create unique sounds that go above and beyond what was ever possible with traditional delay units and stompboxes. Accurately modelling the classic hardware includes emulating the signature response when driven hard, something EchoBoy excels at. When pushed to the limits, EchoBoy 5.2, Digital Delivery will generate warm and musical harmonics that can take even the most basic of digital sounds to the analog world.
Designed for musicians
While offering a huge range of functions and flexibility, EchoBoy is designed with musicians in mind to quickly and easily take control of your repeats without the need to consult a manual or traverse difficult menus and sub-menus. Presented in an intuitive and easy to read interface, with EchoBoy you can express your creativity freely whenever inspiration strikes. Unlike the vintage hardware that is contained with EchoBoy, syncing up to your projects and mixes to create tempo-synced repeats is a breeze, as too is dialling in a different character and tone through a simple drop-down menu within the saturation section.
Not to say that EchoBoy sounds digital or sterile and too 'fake', as there are plenty of options for adding in a distinctive feel by adjusting the Groove and Accent controls, where your delays can now drag or rush against the beat to create a lifelike humanised performance.
Expressive tools
Fusing both functionality with intuitive operation, EchoBoy delivers far beyond what you have come to expect from traditional delay plug-ins. A wide range of presets, organised into categories, can be used to quickly and easily get up and running with incredibly interesting and unique delay trails that can add movement and space within your mix or alternatively take complete control over the customisation of your delay signal and discover your sonic signature. Keep it simple and use only the conventional parameters to create basic mono, digital delays or switch to Dual Echo or Ping-Pong mode to create powerful stereo effects that cover the full spatial field. Take it up one step further and explore what the powerful Rhythm Mode and Echo Style editor has to offer and how they can transform your understanding of what's possible with delay!
New rhythms
Going above and beyond what conventional delay plug-ins will offer, EchoBoy features a stunning Rhythm Echo mode, putting you in control of your repeats. Rhythm Echo mode delivers a completely new experience for creating and customising delays, encouraging you to get hands-on and creative with your rhythms, instead of following 'set and forget' preset styles. With this mode, you can select the timing of up to 16 taps (repeats), simulating if you had access to up to 16 tape delay reel heads. A unique and fresh take on delay creation, you may find that the Rhythm Echo mode might become your go-to for creating customised echos for all of your projects and mixes.
Get started with Rhtyhm Echo by selecting a built-in pattern, either from a simple, synced note decay or from the groove selections within the rhythm library. Next, you can use the rhythm editor grid to customise your groove and take control over the timing and loudness using the Shape control. Select and dial in the perfect volume shape for your pattern including Decay, Nonlinear, Reverse, Fade or Swell. Once you have created a customised rhythmic delay of your dreams, you can further tweak and control the tone with a high-pass and a low-pass filter and dial in an overall mix to blend in parallel with your dry signal.
Deep customisation
Always looking to push the boundaries of what's possible within a single plug-in, SoundToys have provided you with a variety of tone-shaping and sculpting options to customise your delay signal and dry tone to fit any mix style and type. Although EchoBoy models a vast range of vintage hardware units, adjustments have been made to fit the demands of modern producers and engineers by adding a host of modern features. Dive into the Style Editor to access a plethora of creative tools to create any delayed sound you can dream up.
When opening the Style Editor, you will be met with a highly flexible three-band EQ where you can carve out or boost frequencies to let your delay trails sit within your mix. Additionally, the three-band EQ features a Decay knob, allowing you to adjust the echo decay and direct sounds independently to control how the tone changes with each repeat.
A comprehensive editing section is jam-packed with key features that allow you to add in the signature SoundToys warmth and depth to your tone by controlling the saturation and modulation of your delayed repeats. In this editor, you can choose the amount and type of analog saturation in your signal to completely alter the character of your repeated echos. Adding in subtle amounts of saturation can help to glue your sound together to one cohesive unit, or alternatively add an abundance of saturation to add grit and distortion to your repeats, making them be the front and centre of your mix. A 'Diffusion' section lets you soften the repeated echos and create reverb-like delays, removing all definition from your signal to blend seamlessly with your dry signal. Lastly, a 'Wobble' section is where you will be able to add the chorusing effect within EchoBoy. Adding the chorus will help to give your signal width, making it ideal for mono sources with mono delays such as vocal performance to give your sound a great depth of field and space.
