Evolution of digital
Prior to the release of the TR-707, Roland released an analog-digital hybrid machine called the TR-909. This made use of memory chips and digital to analog converters to create the staple sounds from that unit, however, the TR-909 had limited sound-shaping options and was out of most musicians' price bracket at the time. This then called for a transition to complete digital technology and resulted in the creation of the TR-707. Combining a sample-based memory with a highly user-friendly interface with more tone shaping options than ever before in a hands-on unit, the TR-707 became the industry standard.
The sound of vintage digital
Due to the technology of the day, the original hardware utilised a 25kHz, 8-Bit (6-bit for some tones) sample playback system. Because of the poor sampling rate and conversion rate, the TR-707 experienced quantization noise during the decay of the sample. To combat this, non-decaying PCM waveforms were used with decay introduced in the analog section of the circuit. Because of the primitive nature of the technology used, the TR-707 would deviate from the clocking mechanism causing pitch variances on certain tones that were played back. Using the proprietary ACB circuit-level modelling, the TR-707 Drum Machine Plugin accurately presents all of these quirks that made the original hardware such a sought-after unit.
Immaculate recreation
As the original TR-707 hardware was sampled based, it would be impossible to perfectly capture their unique sound and response using the same basic samples in the same playback system. To fully encapsulate the sound and character, the TR-707 Drum Machine Plugin uses the original PCM wave data in combination with the proprietary Analog Circuit Behaviour (ACB) modelling technology to capture every nuance and detail of the PCM output stage including all of the instabilities and uniqueness that give the TR-707 its signature sound. Going even further beyond what was possible on the original hardware, the Roland TR-707 Drum Machine Plugin employs dials for tuning, decay and PCM clock adjustments.
Authentic experience
Expertly designed, the Roland TR-707 Drum Machine Plugin feels just like the real thing, with the indistinguishable sound, immaculate dials and knobs that respond the same as the hardware counterpart, you're going to find yourself using this for any project that requires a vintage drum machine flavour. Not only does it sound great, but it looks the part as well, with the GUI coming in two forms as a new or vintage skin to fit your aesthetic and style.
Although the TR-707 Drum Machine Plugin delivers an accurate response to the original hardware, it goes far beyond what's capable on vintage outboard equipment. With powerful sequencing, flexible tonal shaping and drag and drop audio/MIDI to your DAW for seamless multi-out setups, the TR-707 Drum Machine Plugin is the ideal solution for contemporary musicians and music producers, especially live performers looking for an authentic vintage sound with the reliability of modern plugins.
Take your sound to the next level
To meet the demands of modern producers and mixing engineers, the TR-707 Drum Machine Plugin features under the hood parameters that enable you to sculpt and shape the sound exactly how you want for your productions. You can adjust the attack of the bass drum or the snap of a snare to get the right amount of punch and sustain from your drums with an ultra-smooth tuning and decay. Why not experiment with overdriving the internal circuit for a crunchy and distorted sound that will fit perfectly for modern dance floor music!
Ultra powerful sequencing
Presenting one of the most advanced sequencers found within a drum machine plugin, the TR-707 Drum Machine Plugin's sequencer lets you dial in the perfect blend of rhythm and groove with as much nuance and detail as you need. Individual sequencer lanes with mute, solo and shuffle per-instrument let you quickly audition tones within your sequencer lane to get the blend just right as well as per-step accents and per-step hit velocity for an expressive performance. Change up your standard sequencing and add in some dynamism and movement in your tones with sub-steps and flams, it's never been this easy to create complex and evolving sequences that will get your music heard in a crowd.
