While typically, you may need to spend a large amount of budget on a quality studio condenser microphone, the MXL 990 has come to dismantle that belief. Crafted with quality components and engineered by industry veteran Leonard Marshall, the MXL 990 boasts stunning audio clarity that punches well above its weight.
Versatile enough to perform on just about any instrument you throw at it, the MXL 990's wheelhouse lies within main vocals. Tuned to bring the best out of your voice, the MXL 990's full-range frequency response from 20Hz - 20kHz features a lift in the upper mid-range where your voice typically lies. This allows you to get all of the articulation and detail from every word out, without sounding too brittle or harsh.
Crafted with excellent materials, the 990 features internal wiring with Mogami cables. These Mogami cables significantly contribute to the clarity and air you get every time you use your MXL 990. Premium components throughout the entire build culminates in an excellent sonic performance, with an extremely low noise floor that rivals even the most boutique of hand-made studio condenser microphones.
Providing superb value for the money, the MXL 990 also comes with a purpose-designed shock mount as well as a travel case. The travel case is foam-lined with individual slots for your microphone and shock mount, allowing you to go between recording studios, rehearsals or even live shows knowing your MXL 990 won't be damaged in transit. This case will protect against the elements as well as minimising any impact damage your microphone might suffer through drops and bumps.
The included shock mount has been purposed designed to help you get the best performance possible from your 990 Condenser Microphone. Using robust metals in a cradle format, the suspension shock mount isolates your microphone from any outside noise to maintain a clean and audible signal. Elastically isolating your microphone from their solid environment, any mechanical noise from nearby electrical items, handling noise from bumps or knocks as well as any low-end rumble from ambient room noise is effectively eliminated.
Packaged in a small-format, compact wide-cardioid package, the 991 exhibits the natural lift in the top end you associate with traditional small diaphragm condenser microphones. Extending high into the audible frequency range, the 991 is able to add air and brightness to dull instruments, giving them life to sit within your mix better. Ideal for use on violins, acoustic guitars, drum overs or piano wires, the 991 accepts a small amount of off-axis noise through the wide cardioid pattern, ideal for adding ambience and realism to your recordings. Similarly to the 990, the 991 is internally wired with Mogami cables for optimal audio transfer with little to no interference or distortion.
