Common controls with added royal flavour
Maximum sonic possibilities await you, without an over the top interface that takes hours and multiple projects to get your head around, Imperial Delay is undeniably intuitive and is designed in a way that will make you wish that it was industry standard. On top of your usual delay controls such as sync mode, wet and dry level, tape emulation, tap tempo and delay modes including ping-pong, Imperial delay also features a set of effects that can change the sonic landscape of your sounds and expand the already versatile usability of the plug-in.
Effects include drive, feedback, modulation, smear, colour, chorus, duck and width. While some are effects you have heard of before, though probably not usually on delay modules, and are self-explanatory in function, BDL has developed some new and advanced features so you can really take your ambient effects game to new heights. For example, Smear offers a new and unique effect that will make your echoes less distinct, more distant and muffled and Ducking, though not new, is utilised in a unique way so you can suppress your delay while the input signal is hot, all in one control knob making for easy dialling in.
Pitch your idea, your way
Thickening up vocals by cloning a vocal track and shifting the pitches is not a new concept but wanting to make this process easy, something which BDL is known for with all their plug-ins, Boz has put a new spin on this idea to bring you an easy way to perform this task with Imperial Delay. There are two smaller control dials with the names Pitch L and Pitch R and what they enable you to do is change the pitch shift levels independently or linked in stereo at the feedback loop stage, this means that you can get a pitch shift effect that gradually gets more intense and pronounced with every echo that comes around. This is a powerful sound design tool that gifts you the ability to create new sonic interest for your tracks or just use it subtly for the aforementioned vocal beefing.
Time to get technical
At face value Imperial Delay makes delay and the setting of parameters simple and easy, something which makes it the perfect tool if you're wanting a quick synced delay. However, for those wanting to delve deeper into the features of the parameters of each control, BDL has got your back and thanks to its dual-layer architecture you're able to get as technical as you need to. Each control has a small 'e' button close by which provides you with a hidden menu that features controls for each advanced setting and a set of presets to quickly recall your favourite setup with the added ability to edit and save your own. This makes effects like the chorus infinitely adaptable with advanced modes to change the number of voices with the option for 2, 4, 8, or 16 voices.
