The Noise Engineering Ruina Versio is a multi-band stereo digital distortion unit with five distortion parameters to sculpt, mangle and destroy your audio. The Ruina Versio provides you with a wide variety of unique distortion characteristics to create and fine-tune your sound. Using the individual effects parameters you can create tense, cinematic soundscapes, destructive drones or add punishing abrasive distortion to clean instruments.


A simple USB connection allows you to update the module to a variety of firmware. Open-source support is available, too, which allows you to write your own firmware. The Ruina Versio has an almost neverending amount of possibilities and can truly change the way you create and manipulate music. This exciting module will allow you to explore your creativity to the fullest and expand your existing Eurorack setup to create harmonic rich and destructive sounds.

Ruina Versio, meaning "Versatile Destruction"

The aptly name Ruina Versio is a versatile stereo distortion module capable of generating a variety of effects, making it the ideal choice for any application. From Phase shifting, multi-band saturation and notch filtering both electronic and acoustic music creators can explore the sounds to the fullest to create exciting and powerful music. Run your clean guitar signal through to create interesting and experimental sounds that aren't able to be produced through conventional electric guitar equipment. Bring out the most destructive capabilities of the Ruina Versio with a sawtooth wave for extra harmonic content and saturation. Your music can stand out and be heard with powerful intent.

Add some DOOM to your audio

For the first time in Eurorack form, add Noise Engineerings powerful DOOM circuit to your audio. Add suboctave chorus and overtone buzz to your tracks to create thick and full sounding instruments you can't achieve with any other distortion. Specifications

Interface:

  • Blend: Dry/wet balance control. When turned fully left, the unmodified input signal is passed through. Fully right, only the processed signal is heard.
  • Fold: Wavefolder, based on the Noise Engineering Infinifolder that appears on many modules like the Basimilus Iteritas Alter.
  • Center: Width and position of the multiband saturator center band.
  • DOOM: Doom is a suboctave chorus. Imagine it like a suboctave generator, but evil: as you turn it up, the louder the suboctave is, and the more out-of-tune it becomes. In the top quarter of the knob, overtone buzz is added to the suboctave chorus.
  • Phase: Phase shifts the left and right signals to create stereo width and/or phasing effects even if your input signal is mono and it can even add some pitch warble and distortion if pushed far enough.
  • Drive: Multiband saturator. Emphasizes the four different bands, isolating the lowest when turned fully counterclockwise and the highest turned fully clockwise.
  • 8vize: A full-wave rectification distortion, inspired by our Pura Ruina module. This can create distortion effects that can sound pitched up 1 octave.
  • Smoosh: Press or trigger with a gate for 128dB of gain. Smoosh adds 128dB of gain to the input signal, so while the output level stays the same, the sound gets WAY more distorted
  • Mini Switches:
    • UND/X/OVR: Sets the signal flow
    • UND: Fold -> DOOM -> Rectify -> Saturate
    • X: Fold -> Saturate -> Rectify -> DOOM
    • OVR: Fold -> DOOM -> Rectify -> Saturate -> Fold
    • OFF/ON/TRK: Notch filter:
    • OFF: Off
    • ON: Fixed-frequency notch at 1kHz.
    • TRK: Tracks the frequency of the Center knob
