The P90 is a perfect middle ground sonically between a single coil and a PAF.

P-90 Pickups proved very popular with classic rock artists like Pete Townshend (The Who) and Carlos Santana, who used Les Paul and SG Junior guitars. The P90 has a characteristic edgy but thick sound, that cuts right through a band mix.
