The MMF-1s builds on the design of the Cwejman MMF-1, adding a saturation section, additional controls and a wide variety of CV and audio connectivity. The MMF-1 is ideal for sound design applications, boasting an integrated saturation section with multiple compression settings and in-depth modulation control. It can be used for processing synth module signals and other external equipment for changing the tone, style and dynamics of a sound. The precision attenuators and ergonomic layout make changing parameters quick and easy, for an improved workflow. It also features a range of switches for changing parameters including a 12db/24dB filter slope switch. You can also choose between Linear, Exponential and Mix parameters for the VCA.
The Cwejman MMF-1s Multi Mode Filter features seven filtering modes in total, giving you more than enough variety to achieve any sound and style you require. The seven modes are comprised of: Low pass, high pass, band pass, dual band pass (dual resonance), dual band pass (single upper resonance), dual band pass (single lower resonance) and Notch (single or dual resonance). Each filter mode is suited to different purposes. For example, the low-pass filter cuts out the high-end of the frequency spectrum, ideal for cleaning up basslines and other low-end sounds. The more unique filters such as the dual band pass, allow you to isolate a certain frequency by using the Q control, which can be used for creating wah-type effects and other overtones.
The other section of the module is dedicated to the saturation stage. The saturation stage is designed to distort the signal in a nonlinear way. The dedicated saturation attenuator can be voltage controlled for use with external modes. The Mix parameter allows you to adjust the fine-tuning of your sound, allowing you to blend between the original and processed sound, or via a VCA at the output. The filtered signal is then selectable via the MMF output. One of the most unique parameters on the module is the 2nd harmonic control, designed to emphasise the second order harmonics of your sound. The compression section boasts three selectable ratios comprised of: 1:1, 3:1 and 20:1. The saturated signal can be used via the Mix VCA output, with the resulting signal dependant on the VCA/Mix Switch, as well as the Mix control.
The flexible design is ideal for a range of purposes including sound design applications. The Pole is defined by how steep the filter cuts attenuated frequencies. You can choose between 12dB/octave and 24dB/octave slope settings for varied results. The 12dB/octave results in a 2-pole filter cut, with the 24 dB/octave including 4-pole filter cuts. The higher the slope of the filter, the more filter cuts it results in.
The module also boasts a wide range of Audio and CV connectivity including dual dedicated audio inputs. The two Cuttoff CV connections allow you to control the Cutoff frequency from external modules and equipment. The Q-Peak and Spacing controls also boasts CV connections for external control. The two main outputs are the MMF and VCA Mix patch points, allowing you to incorporate a range of outside signal sources. The saturated signal is process through the VCA Mix connections, with the result depending on the VCA/Mix switch and the mix control.
