The stave shell construction of this snare is the key to its impressive resonance and musical tone. A stave is a block of wood, almost like a xylophone bar, the stave blocks are then glued together at their edges to form the shell. This method of construction means that the grains within the wood run vertically, from top to bottom, allowing the shell to resonate more freely and by using as little glue as possible, the resonant waves can vibrate more intensely.
