The James Burton Telecaster has 3 single coil James Burton pickups that provide access to a wide range of sounds, bridging the gap between Telecaster and Stratocaster. The pickups produce a fiery tone to match the guitar's finish and are specially voiced to James Burton's requirements.
A 5-way switch gives this guitar access to the "Strato-o-Tele" switching, offering the ability to select the bridge/neck pickup independently and three other dual-pickup combinations. This gives you the looks and feel of a Telecaster with the versatility of a Stratocaster. The S-1 Switch gives even more tonal versatility and lets you engage series circuitry for pickup positions 2 and 4.
The James Burton Telecaster has a vintage-inspired maple neck with "U" profile; this is designed to sit fully in the left hand and provide enhanced sustain. The 21-frets are also vintage-inspired for a classic feel, while the bolt-on joint has a cutaway for enhanced access to the top frets.
A basswood body is a non-traditional though not un-common tonewood for the Telecaster guitar. Basswood has a lightweight feel giving you increased playing comfort for longer gigs and rehearsals. Tonally, basswood is highly versatile and creates a sympathetic warmth with mid-range balance and great resonance. This tonewood gives you the option to shape your tone as much as you like via the versatile pickups and electronics.
Gold hardware gives this guitar a classy aesthetic, and the hardware is designed to give great tuning stability. The Hardtail Stratocaster bridge gives full adjustment over individual string action and intonation, while the string-thru-body design enhances sustain. The guitar has a synthetic bone nut with a low-friction action on the strings and the Bi-Flex truss rod gives accurate adjustment over the neck bowing/flexing. This guitar comes complete with a Deluxe Tweed Case, cable and strap, giving you the complete package to get performing on stage.
James Burton is a multi-genre guitarist with a decades-long career supporting artists including Ricky Nelson, Elvis Presley, Emmylou Harris, Elvis Costello and many others. He performs in rock and country styles and developed the "chiken pickin'" guitar style while championing the Telecaster guitar throughout his career. The James Burton Telecaster was Fender's first-ever signature model and is still going strong through its various iterations.
