The Mesa Boogie Lone Star Special features two channels, each with independent 3-band EQ, presence, and volume controls to fully sculpt your sound. The channels are remotely accessible via the footswitch (included) making this the ideal amp for live performances. Channel 1 delivers a bubbly clean tone with incredible dynamics and a musical response to your playing. Channel 2 can either be set up as a (slightly heavier) version of channel 1, or as a cascading drive channel with 3 different voices, covering edge-of-breakup, crunch, and saturated lead tones.
Each of the Lone Star Special's Channels features a multi-watt switch (5w/15w/30w), letting you dial in the perfect level of headroom and breakup characteristics per channel. The 15 and 30-watt modes provide 2 and 4 output valves, respectively, in push-pull mode for a bubbly and responsive sound with increased headroom and dynamic range. The 5-watt mode runs a single output valve in single-ended mode for true Class-A performance: this creates an incredibly complex tone, saturated in 2nd order harmonics for a lush sound that has to be experienced in person to be believed. Whether you require a delicate clean tone, an edge-of-breakup crunch, or a thickly saturated lead sound with complex overtones, you'll find it all with the Lonestar's 2 channels and multiple wattage settings. The Lone Star Special's musical response makes it the ideal amp for blues, country, rock, jazz, and any other style that requires great nuance and reaction to your playing dynamics.
A buffered FX loop allows you connect your external effects with the optimum level, courtesy of a dedicated send-level control. The built-in, tube-driven reverb also provides a lush ambience for your tone to sit, with options for dark and bright voices. A solo boost dial also lets you pre-set a second master-volume to switch to in an instant with the included footswitch.
The Lone Star Special is crafted from marine-grade Baltic birch, creating a strong and durable combo that can withstand the rigours of gigging and touring. The compact design makes travelling to gigs an easy proposition, while the included fitted-case offers weather protection. A Celestion 90 speaker projects your tone with clarity and nuance with an ambient sound courtesy of the cab's open-back design.
Guitarist Magazine: 4-1/2 out of 5 stars:
"PROS: Power stage is perfect. Superb styling…
There´s a lot of seriously hot competition at this level, but for sheer tone the Lonestar Special is ahead of the pack. For blues, rock, country, jazz or any combination, it´s one of the ultimate guitar amps at any price."
